"The Black Sheep"

The story behind the name

We often get asked why we chose the name "The Black Sheep". Is it about being the wild one? The rule-breaker? The rebel? Or is it a badge of honor? Truth is that the name has nothing to do with being the cool or the edgy one in a “social” set up. It has everything to do with how it feels to be the different one in the “family” context. It’s about the quiet, complicated feeling of being different within your family. It’s loving them deeply, but still feeling like you don’t quite fit in.

You think differently, express differently, choose differently. You're often misunderstood, either too much or not enough. Being the black sheep isn’t about rejection. It’s about evolution. About growing in directions your family may not understand yet. About breaking patterns, they didn’t even know existed. We named this brand for all of us who love our families so much but are still learning how to love ourselves inside those same walls. To anyone who’s ever felt like they don’t belong at their own dinner table - We see you. We feel you. We are you.

The Black Sheep Collective is a celebration of individuality, crafted for those who defy expectations and embrace their own path. We craft statement pieces for those who defy convention, those who don’t blend in, but stand proudly apart. Blending contemporary silhouettes with centuries-old Indian techniques like Zardozi, Aari, Pita, and French Knots, every garment is meticulously handcrafted.

Our designs are unapologetic, elegant, and bold. Just like the people who wear them.

Meet the designer

Purvasha Saini

Purvasha’s journey into fashion is shaped by instinct, vision, and hands-on experience. A hospitality post-graduate from New York University (NYU), her career took her through some of the world’s most iconic hotels in the heart of New York City. There, she navigated the fast-paced world of high-end hotel marketing crafting campaigns that weren’t just about booking rooms but about selling a lifestyle.

"These hotels weren’t just places to stay, they were cultural landmarks where fashion, art, and hospitality converged. With designer-clad guests, exclusive brand collaborations, and lobby spaces transforming into makeshift fashion show venues, I realized that fashion and hospitality are two sides of the same coin. Both are about creating an aura, curating a mood, and crafting experiences that stay with you."

But Purvasha’s love for fashion began long before Manhattan’s glittering skyline became her backdrop. As a child, she was fascinated by how clothing could shape a person, not just in appearance, but in confidence and energy. She played with textures and silhouettes, blended global influences, and observed how style could tell a story without words. That passion, combined with her deep understanding of luxury environments, evolved into a brand that merges the precision of modern tailoring with the richness of Indian artistry.
